Over a five-year period (2011-2015), the Vital Outcome Indicators for Community Engagement (VOICE) Research Project will bring together community partners, organizations and university researchers for the purpose of helping children and youth from First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) in Northern Manitoba to achieve educational and career success.
Development of the project began in 2010 when a team of researchers from the Faculty of Education at Brandon University (BU) and from the University College of the North (UCN) came together to talk about what they could do in their Teacher Education Programs to address the education and career gap between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children and youth. The VOICE project officially began in 2011 when it was awarded a five-year, community-university research partnership funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada.
