President’s Message
This is a year of renewal for Brandon University. We are engaging in the first University wide, cross-functional University planning exercise in many years. BUILD 2010 (Brandon University – Innovation, Leadership and Development) will set the course for BU’s moving forward and growth strategy for the next five years.
Universities are currently going through a sea of change, both in Canada and around the world. Many community colleges now offer degree granting opportunities. As well, private for profit universities are active in offering degrees in many parts of Canada. Competition for research dollars is intense and the demographics of student populations are shifting. In this context, Brandon University will need a clear path and direction to continue to grow and to successfully meet its regional, provincial and national mandate as a public university in Canada.
As we move forward together in the development of our plan, the University will require the talent and expertise of all members of its community – the Board of Governors, the Senate, the students, the faculty and staff and the broader communities which we serve in Manitoba. We will reaffirm our commitment to the best that is BU. In addition, we will articulate and implement a new vision that will position Brandon University to flourish as a first rate university with a focus on knowledge creation, knowledge translation and knowledge mobilization for the betterment of Manitobans.
I look forward to working with our campus and Westman communities as we move forward in our development of BU now and in the future.
Respectfully,
Deborah C. Poff, PhD
President and Vice-Chancellor
