Historical Perspective

He has more than twenty  years’ experience in preparing, implementing and monitoring educational and training programs (Curriculum and Instructions) for the mature students in rural communities in the developing and developed countries.   Amjad has coordinated numerous national and international projects including projects sponsored by the World Bank (WB), International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD), Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC).He has experience in working with students in a multicultural setting at the secondary and post secondary levels include teaching at Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School (DRCSS), Ste. Rose High School at Ste. Rose du Lac, Brandon Adult Learning Center (BALC), Program for Education of Native Teachers (PENT) and at various Brandon University Northern Teacher Education Program (BUNTEP) centers in the northern communities of Manitoba. He has been teaching Biology I and General Ecology (courses of Biology departments) in addition to methods and curriculum/content courses in mathematics and science education at various BUNTEP centers. He has had the opportunity to teach similar courses for PENT on a regular basis. 

He possesses a sound knowledge of gender equality and educational institutions, their standards and cultures in developing countries. To keep abreast with the latest teaching pedagogy in mathematics and science education, He has enrolled in a second Ph.D in education program at the University of Manitoba. He is a member of various professional organizations/ associations which keep him updated with the latest research findings in the areas of mathematics and science education.Amjad is a member of various committees and professional organizations at the faculty, university, provincial and national levels. He has been a member of the Admissions Committee in the Faculty of Education and currently, he is member of Faculty of Education Graduate Studies Committee (FEGSC) and the Faculty of Education’s representative to the Faculty of Science Council. He has served as a judge in Western Manitoba Science Fairs on an annual basis.He is a certified coach and referee for soccer and cricket; he has been serving Brandon and surrounding communities by promoting healthy activities since last decade. He has been the student representative for The Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) at Brandon University. Internationally, He has been involved in the development of a teacher training program and the certification process for the Federal College of Education, Islamabad, Pakistan. He has been volunteering to recruit international students from South Asia and the Middle East for Brandon University in undergraduate and graduate programs.  Such activities clearly demonstrate that he has been involved with the community on an ongoing basis. His background in science and education enable him to serve the university and the community at large.

2008     M.Ed practicum of a student was supervised for the Department of Graduate Studies, Faculty of Education, Brandon University, Brandon Manitoba. Canada:  Thesis title: Enhancement Year Program Study; Fisher River First Nation.  The purpose of the study was to exam the impact of the Enhancement Year Program on students’ self esteem, academics and attitudes towards studying.  In addition, the success of students in their postsecondary was the main focus of study.
