Representation to the Health Studies Graduate Steering Committee

Student representation is essential to ensure the student perspectives are considered in program operation and ongoing development.  Representation is critical at this time since processes are still being established.  We have been fortunate to have a local student agree to serve as the student representative.  Sharran Forsman has been serving in this role since September 2012.  Sharran periodically solicits information from students through the MPN Community Commons.  Please support her in this role by responding to questions.  All students can pose questions or initiate discussion about topics of concern.  Sharran will bring these perspectives forward to the Health Studies Graduate Steering Committee. 

The purpose of the Health Studies Graduate Studies Steering Committee (GSSC) is to provide overall direction for the Master of Psychiatric Nursing program.  Specifically, GSSC is responsible to: 

• develop, administer and review policies and procedures specific to the Master of Psychiatric Nursing program;
• develop, monitor, evaluate, and revise curriculum for the Master of Psychiatric Nursing program;
• approve the course outline for each directed study course;
• approve admissions to the Master of Psychiatric Nursing program and monitor student progress through the program;
• for each student, approve the program, advisor, advisory committee, thesis proposal, and thesis examination committee; and
• advise on operational undertakings of the Program Coordinator such as:
  • timetabling courses;
  • coordinating workload with other School of Health Studies Departments;
  • hiring sessional instructors;
  • selecting clinical practice settings;
  • addressing student, academic and clinical issues; and
  • recommend on award / scholarship recipients.
