Remote Access & Control (VPN)
Remote access and Remote control to your PC from off-campus
Remote Access
Remote access can be setup for accessing specific websites (such as empcenter), or for accessing the entire Brandon University system (including Novell drives).
1. Install the VPN Client. (Sonicwall Netextender)
(watch the video)
Follow this step if you don’t necessarily wish to remotely control your office computer, but would rather connect your off-campus computer to the BU network. This allows your off-campus computer to sign into Novell from home over the internet, to use network applications, view restricted websites such as empcenter, etc. All of which can be done with step 2 except that in step 2 you are remotely controlling your office computer. Step 1 doesn’t require your office computer to be on.
NOTE: You must connect using either Internet explorer or Safari to install this client.
You may then close the sonicwall window, as well as the internet explorer/safari page and you will remain connected. Now use your computer as needed.
Please disconnect the netextender when finished with your programs that required BU network access.
You now have the client installed and to reconnect you just need to open it from with your Programs menu under Sonicwall VPN-Netextender.
Note: You may alternatively install this program by connecting to the Novell system on campus and saving the file from the M:\Sonicwall Netextender folder, and then taking it home to be installed. (Enter BUVPN for the domain, and vpn.brandonu.ca for the server) Or download the file for windows here
