Built for the Future

MCM Architects Inc. have designed the HLC to be one of the most energy efficient facilities in the City of Brandon, using the green standard of LEED Silver.

 

Located at Louise Avenue and 20th Street, Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre is 79,500 square feet of community fitness and recreation space.  The new centre incorporates both 49,500 square feet of newly constructed space and renewal of the University‘s former 30,000 square-foot facility.

Facilities and Equipment

Fitness Room, featuring:

    • State-of-the-art cardio equipment
    • Netpulse, an interactive network linking HLC fitness equipment which allows you to digitally track your workouts, create personalized music and video playlists, and watch favourite TV programs. We are the first university in Canada to link our cardio equipment with this exciting service
  • Wheelchair accessible fitness equipment

Indoor walking/jogging track – the only one in Brandon

Three gymnasiums

  • Over 12,000 pieces of sports equipment
  • Seating for more than 1,000 spectators

Lockers & change rooms

  • No-charge daily-use lockers (long-term rentals also available)

Facility Benefits:

The new Brandon University Healthy Living Centre will be of great benefit to BU students, staff and surrounding community. The HLC will:

  • Revolutionize BU’s athletic, sports, fitness and wellness programming;
  • Enhance community involvement, facilitated by staff dedicated to community programming;
  • Provide a state-of-the-art gymnasium to support competitive, top-ranked sports programs and team achievements [i.e., Bobcats];
  • Provide a new sports medicine centre to support patient recovery, therapy programs and plans;
  • Support BU‘s student recruitment and retention objectives that include providing students with robust fitness, sports and wellness programming;
  • Enable one of BU’s premier youth programs “Mini U” to expand and enhance its summer programming and numbers of participants.
