Holiday Schedule
General Holidays and Additional Vacation Days for Brandon University Employees
Following is a list of general holidays and additional vacation days in 2013. These apply to all Brandon University Employees (MGEU, IUOE (A), IUOE (D), and BUFA) unless otherwise noted.
(*) Applicable to members of IUOE (A) and (D)
(**) Applicable to members of MGEU (two vacation days required)
(***) Applicable to members of BUFA (three vacation days required)
(****) Applicable to members of BUFA (Floating Day — in lieu of Easter Monday)
For employees using the two (2) designated vacation days there is no need to report these to our office. However, if you wish to use banked time instead of vacation, please advise this office in writing no later than December 1, 2013.
Please note that all banked time must be hours already worked and recorded prior to December 1, 2013.
General Holidays for Student/Research Assistants
Outlined below is general information on The Employment Standards Code and general holidays as they apply to student assistants and research assistants at Brandon University. The annual general holidays in Manitoba that apply are:
All student/research assistants are entitled to general holiday pay of five percent of total wages in the four-week period prior to the holiday.
Easter Sunday, the August Civic Holiday and Boxing Day are not general holidays under Employment Standards. A student/research assistant who is required to work any of these days will receive regular pay.
Remembrance Day is not a general holiday under the Employment Standards Code, however, in Manitoba, The Remembrance Day Act recognizes November 11th and a student/research assistant who is required to, and works on this day shall be paid one and one-half times the regular rate of pay for all hours worked. The employee becomes eligible to receive regular pay in addition to any wages earned for working on Remembrance Day.
