High-Stakes Conversations Workshop

High Stakes Conversation

High-Stakes Conversations (2 day workshop)
June 24 & June 25, 2013
9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Louis Riel Room – Main Floor, McMaster Hall

Workshop Description:

This two-day workshop helps us more effectively engage in our most important conversations, which are also often the most difficult ones.  Differences, tension, and open conflict with the significant people in your workplace, family, or community can make communication hard and exceptionally frustrating.

In this workshop, participants will thoroughly explore how to transform difficult situations into opportunities for insightful conversations about things that matter the most to them.

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is intended for all participants who want to build their understanding and abilities to address interpersonal conflict situations.  Participants are to come to this workshop prepared to share and work with one or two of their personal difficult conversation experiences in a small group case study setting.

Objectives:

Participants attending this workshop will:

  • Develop a greater understanding of how to constructively initiate difficult conversations
  • Increase both their understanding and ability to turn negative situations into productive difficult conversations
  • Discover ways to express what matters most in ways that others are increasingly likely to understand and not reject
  • Enhance their ability to practice the principle of curiosity and truly understand another’s reality
  • Reexamine and evaluate past difficult conversation experiences, identifying both effective actions and opportunities to apply new learning
