Campus Recreation
Brandon University Campus Recreation endeavours to provide equal opportunity for all students, faculty, staff, BUFit members and Alumni to participate in a variety of physical activities, whether it is competitive, recreational, instructional, or sport club oriented.
BUFit
BUFit is a program designed to allow faculty, staff (current or retired), alumni, and the Brandon community access to the facilities and programs available through Brandon University Campus Recreation. The list of privileges enjoyed by members includes the following:
Memberships can be purchased on a daily ($3), monthly ($30), or yearly basis for youth (under 18—parents will be required to sign a registration form) or adults ($130), plus special family rates.
Club Sport Activities
Club sports that are available throughout the academic term are:
Badminton Club – Thurs 8:30-10:00 pm and Sun 8:00–10:30 pm, BU Gym
Curling League – Mon 4:45-6:45 pm, Brandon Curling Club Keystone Centre
Indoor Soccer Recreational – Sun 6:00-8:00 pm & Tues 8:30-10:00 pm, BU Gym
Fencing Club – Tues/Thurs 7:00-9:00 pm, BU Gym Mezzanine
Kickboxing – Mon & Wed 5:00-6:00 pm, BU Gym Mezzanine
Aerobics – Mon & Wed, 5:00-6:00 pm, BU Gym Mezzanine
Judo – Mon/Wed, 6:00-9:30 pm, BU Mezzanine
Brazilian Martial Arts – Tues & Thurs 5:00-6:30 pm, BU Gym Mezzanine
Zumba- TBA
Yogo – Wed 12:10–12:50 pm, BU Elephant Room
Registration for these activities can be done at the BU Gymnasium main office. Check with the Campus Recreation office 727-9636 for more details or information on other activities.
Special Events
The Blue and Gold Curling Bonspiel is held annually in March.
Rentals
Equipment such as cross-country skis, canoes, kayaks, etc. can be rented for a nominal cost from the Gymnasium. Check with the Equipment Room office at 727-9756 for more details or to book your equipment.
Intramural Sports
Intramural sports are offered throughout the academic term and include but are not limited to the following: Touch Football, Soccer, Slo-Pitch, Volleyball, 3-on-3 Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Road Hockey, Ice Hockey, Basketball, 3-on-3 Basketball, Bowling, Curling League, and Two-Some Curling.
Most of the Intramural sports are co-ed. Participants can sign up as a team or as individuals and be put on a team. If you are interested in an activity, and we have not got it listed come and see us. The ultimate aim is to create a positive attitude among all participants towards the necessity of active participation in physical activity.
Open Gym/Off Campus Activities
Participants wishing to take part in physical activity on an informal basis can do so in activities such as swimming *, aqua fitness *, skating *, racquetball *, working out in the Hydra Gym/Fitness room, participate in an activity of your choice during the open gym, and participate in special events such as Bowlerama and Ultimate Disc.
* Require a pass that can be purchased from the Gymnasium equipment room.
Off-campus events require a nominal fee. Check the main Campus Recreation bulletin board in the Gymnasium or call 727-9636 or 727-9642 for more information.
Workshops/Clinics
Campus Recreation hosts in conjunction with Sport Manitoba and the Provincial Sport Bodies a variety of National Coaching Certification Theory and Technical weekend clinics throughout the fall and winter, such as volleyball officiating and technical level I & II, Basketball technical level I & II, Theory Part A & B, Badminton, Track & Field, and Soccer.
We can help you make sport a better place for our children and youth to participate. Call 727-9636 for dates, times, cost and specific clinic that you are interested in registering. If we do not have your sport/ activity scheduled, we can look into scheduling the clinic.
Brandon University invites you to participate in an activity of your choice. The activities are designed to enrich the university experience of every participant and to allow for maximum enjoyment.
Gymnasium facilities and equipment are normally available from 8:00 am to 10:30 pm daily, during the fall and winter semesters.
