Department of Institutional Advancement

The Department of Institutional Advancement is responsible for the following functions at Brandon University:

• Alumni Relations
• Fundraising activities for Brandon University
• Donor and Alumni records management
• Staff support to the BU Alumni Association (BUAA)
• Staff support to the BU Foundation (BUF)

As staff support to the Brandon University Foundation (BUF), the Institutional Advancement Office is responsible for:

• All fundraising activities on campus, including major campaigns, the Annual Fund Campaign, the Presidents’ Circle donor club, Planned Gifts, Gifts in Kind and Faculty Staff donations through payroll deduction and overload sessional contributions;
• Donor relationship building for Brandon University with records management of over 8,000 donors;
• Tax-receipting for all donations;
• Publication of the Brandon University Foundation (BUF) Annual Report and the coordination of a variety of donor related events as well as BUF Annual Meetings, Management Committee and Investment Committee.

The Brandon University Foundation (BUF) was incorporated in 1980 with a mission to promote the advancement of higher education at Brandon University and to improve the quality of its facilities and activities.

As staff support for the Brandon University Alumni Association (BUAA), the Institutional Advancement Office is dedicated to building and serving the community of present and future alumni by celebrating the traditions of Brandon University, inspiring pride in Brandon University and enhancing student life at Brandon University. The BUAA is responsible for the following:

• Publication of the Alumni News magazine twice a year (Spring and Fall), which reaches more than 13,000 alumni and friends of Brandon University world-wide;
• Affinity services such as the sales of alumni crested merchandise, specialty graduate frames, the MBNA Master Card for alumni and alumni life insurance.
• Planning and hosting special events for alumni throughout Canada and the U.S, responsibility for the Alumni Association Excellence in Teaching Award, Distinguished Service Award and Alumni Hall of Fame induction and assistance with Commencement and Convocation and the annual Alumni Homecoming Weekend (in October).
