Who To Call

The Information Commons Desk (Helpdesk) is a partnership between Information Technology Services and the John E. Robbins Library to support and enhance learning and research at Brandon University. The desk is staffed by one IT staff person as well as students during the day. The Helpdesk is intended to provide first level support for IT and Library related questions. For the majority of questions, the only phone number extension you have to remember is 500 (from off campus call 571-8500). Our staff person and students will provide the initial service you need to help answer your questions. The most common IT related services at the desk include the set up of faculty and staff computers, email setup/problems, password changes, printing problems, login problems, and to help with other office computer related questions. The desk is in operation between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. every business day. For general enquiries after hours, leave a message on the Helpdesk voicemail (ext 500 or 571-8500 from off campus) or email them: helpdesk@brandonu.ca and you will be contacted the following business day.

Emergencies are to be directed to Al Dunthorne, Director at 727-7355 (ext 355).

Telephones

It is important that you record your personal verification on the Call Pilot voicemail system. This is a MUST for the automated switchboard to work effectively. To record your own personal verification and for basic voicemail instructions, please read the instructions on the Brandon University website: http://www.brandonu.ca/helpdesk/

If you have questions regarding the phones, please call the Administrative Assistant for IT Services at ext. 767 (from off-campus call 727-9767.) Further telephone and voicemail instructions can be found at http://www.brandonu.ca/helpdesk/

Voice mail can be accessed by dialing extension 400 on campus or 727-7400 from off campus.

Off Campus and E-mail Access

You can access your webmail account at http://webmail.brandonu.ca. GroupWise users can access email at http://groupwise.brandonu.ca.

The Helpdesk has instructions on how to access your Novell files from off campus, how to share large files through the web with your Novell (network) files, and setting up VPN access from home.

Phone Requests / New Computer Accounts

Telephone service questions and/or new computer accounts are to be directed to the Administrative Assistant for IT Services at extension 767 (from off campus call 727-9767).
