The OIA assists all international students with immigration, visa, study permit, and health insurance concerns. We provide an Orientation session in the fall and continuous international student advocacy, including referrals to counselling and advising services. We also arrange transportation from the Winnipeg International Airport.

The OIA’s website can be viewed at: www.brandonu.ca/academic/international/. Information is available for Canadian and international students, and for BU staff members, including exchange opportunities, scholarships and awards for studying abroad, regular and summer courses abroad, international faculty vacancies, research awards, and exchanges.

BU has recently joined the National Student Exchange, which allows our students to study at over 180 universities in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and Guam. Students also have the opportunity to pursue international exchanges through any of these institutions as well.

The Office of International Activities houses the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, which provides instruction to approximately 50 students in each of three thirteen-week sessions, beginning in January, May and September. The EAP program also offers a Homestay program, language and computer labs, and internet and email access. Students who successfully complete the highest level of the EAP program will receive regular student status and do not need to satisfy any further English language proficiency entrance requirements. Further information can be found on the website at www.brandonu.ca/eap.BU’s EAP program is also being offered in Luoyang #8 High School, Luoyang, Henan, PR China

Last year, 132 international students from 27 countries attended regular studies at Brandon University Students from Tamkang University in Taiwan are studying at BU again this year through their Junior Year Abroad program.

BU has partnership agreements with universities in Mexico, the UK, Japan, and South Africa BU has partnership and exchange agreements with the Universidad de Colima (Mexico), Tamkang University (Taiwan), Nanjing Xiaozhuang University College, Nanjing University of Finance & Economics, and Dalian University (PR China), and the Evangelical University of Paraguay. All of these agreements allow an exchange of faculty and students.

The OIA works very closely with the International Students’ Organization (ISO), and the BU Chinese Students’ and Scholars’ Organization (BUCSSA).

ALL BU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to visit the Office of International Activities for information on exchange programs, travelling, working, or studying abroad.
