Who is the Vice-President, Administration and Finance?
Scott Lamont, MBA, FCGA, Dipl. Ag.
I came to Brandon University in 1992 as the Director of Financial and Accounting Services. In 1996, I assumed the current portfolio.
From 1983 to 1992, I was Controller and Agronomist with a substantial agricultural retail operation in Southwestern Manitoba. Prior to 1983 I worked for an organization called Up With People and farmed. My wife, Louise, and I have three children, who are aged 18 to 26.
For what is the Vice-President, Administration and Finance responsible?
Brandon University administration is divided into two general areas. Academic matters are handled by the Vice-President, Academic and Research. Administrative matters are handled by the Vice-President, Administration and Finance. Both positions report to the University President and are hired by the Board of Governors.
Within Administration and Finance, in addition to the Vice-President, is the Director, Financial and Registration Services; the Director, Human Resources; the Director, Physical Plant; the, Director, Ancillary Services; the Director of Athletics; the Director of Campus Recreation, each of whom will introduce themselves and their area of responsibility.
The Vice-President, Administration and Finance guides budgeting, financial reporting and financial management processes. I am extensively involved in labour relations for all employee groups; facility maintenance, utilities, and construction; Ancillary business operations; athletics and recreation services; and development and management of administrative policies. The role also involves liaising with government agencies, educational institutions and other affiliated organizations across Canada on behalf of Brandon University.
