Early interests: music, literature, travel.
Introduced to 12 tone music while in High School by Luigi Dallapiccola on one of his lecture tours.
After High School (Abitur, großes Latinum), studies at Staatliche Hochschule für Musik, Stuttgart, meets Karlheinz Stockhausen, develops interest in electronic music, composition.
At 20, accepts invitation to work on family farm in Illinois, USA. Travels to New York, California, then undergraduate studies at California State University Northridge, UCLA, UC Berkeley B.A. (Honor list).
Graduate language scholarships for studies in Linguistics, African Languages, African History at UCLA, M.A. UCLA African History (year’s best MA score). Special interest in the history of science.
Returns to music.
Graduate studies at San Francisco State University, M.A. composition.
Graduate studies at UC Berkeley (Eisner prize in Composition), scholarships, assistantships for conducting band and orchestra, theory instruction.
Ph.D. Music Composition UC Berkeley (violin concerto).
Works: orchestral, choral, percussion, instrumental ensembles, electroacoustic, computer, multi-media.
