Been accepted, what are your next steps?
Congratulations on your acceptance to Brandon University! You have made an excellent choice. Our small class sizes, low student-to-professor ratio and excellence in teaching and research are some of the many advantages Brandon University has to offer.
Please follow these important steps to help you prepare for your first day of classes. Please note that updates and changes will be made to the information on this site on a regular basis.
1. Finding your Student number
You have received either a letter of acceptance or a letter stating conditional acceptance. Your student number is a six digit number starting with the year that you have applied (e.g. 12 = 2012). This number can be found on either of these two letters. If you have LOST your student number, please email admissions@brandonu.ca. Don’t worry, it happens.
2. How do I register for classes?
If you are a first time student with BU you will have to call the Student Services Office to make an appointment with a Student Advisor. You cannot register for classes until you have met with an advisor and they have lifted the hold from your account. Please call Student Services at 204-727-9739.
3. Are you a transfer or second-degree student?
If so, you don’t have to meet with an advisor but you are still welcome to make an appointment with one if you have concerns about your courses. Click here for the 2012-13 registration guides. For other important student registration forms click here.
4. How do I slot my courses to make sure I don’t have any overlaps?
You can find a Slot Sheet on the Registration Guide page. Click on the relevant Registration Guide then scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see links to Registration Forms/Slot Schedules. Click on the appropriate slot schedule for your degree program (ie. Arts & Science or Education). Make sure you also check the exam dates to make sure you don’t have overlaps there.
5. How do I get a copy of my class list?
To print a copy of your class list, view your tuition and/or residence costs, class marks, income tax receipt, etc. you must first claim your student ID (see #7). Once you have claimed your student ID you can sign into your account to access your information. Please make sure you memorize your username and password.
6. The 2012-2013 Calendar
The Calendar is the University’s major publication, and it includes admission procedures and deadlines, academic regulations, programs of study, academic standards, degree requirements, general University policies and codes, for both undergraduate and graduate students.
You can view and print a copy of the Registration Guide and the calendar. The University will no longer be distributing printed copies of the calendar.
7. Feeling lost?
Here is a map of campus.
8. Important Dates, Registration & Financial Information
Write these down or type them into your phone. They are important.
To find more information regarding important dates, registration or finances, please go to the Registration Guide page. Scroll down to the bottom of that page to find the links to this information.
9. Claim your B.U. i.d.
Claimid will allow you to have access to the Student Information System where you can check your marks, financial information, course list, as well as sign up for waiting lists (if appropriate). Your B.U. i.d. will also give you a Brandon University email account.
10. Scholarships and Bursaries
Be sure to check out the scholarships for first-year students. The application form can be found here.
11. Student Financial Assistance
Student Financial Assistance is completely separate from the University. The Westman office is located at 340 9th Street (3rd Floor), Provincial Building., Brandon, MB. The telephone number is (204) 726-6592 or visit their website at www.studentaid.gov.mb.ca. You would be wise to apply as early as possible; that way if there are any delays, your loan will still arrive in time to finance your first term of studies. Processing takes at least 2 to 4 weeks from the time a completed application is received with all required documentation. The turnaround for on-line applications seems to be faster then in person.
12. How much will my first-year cost?
Payment for tuition is due on the first day of classes.

16. Daycare
The Bran-U-Day Care Centre, (a provincially subsidized day care) located adjacent to campus at 303 21st Street, welcomes children between the ages of 2 and 6, of students and staff of Brandon University and the community. Open weekdays from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the Centre provides a secure physical, emotional, and intellectual environment for children.
