One of the functions of RDI is to disseminate research findings and applied research practices to policy-makers, researchers, rural communities, students and practitioners. Published research reports, working documents, and tools for communities are available in print and electronically.

In 2006, RDI launched the online, open access Journal of Rural and Community Development (JRCD) providing a venue through which academics can publish findings in the field of development studies in either or both rural and community contexts.
