Yakub has a B.Sc (Hons) in Urban and Regional Planning from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria and an M.Sc degree in International Co-operation and Urban Development from the Technical University Darmstadt, Germany. He has worked as an urban and rural planner in the capacity of consultant and also as a researcher.

Pursuing a masters in Rural Development at Brandon University some of his experiences are in land-use planning and subdivision, rural and urban development, community planning, development and sustainability.
