Beth Peers has contributed to a number of initiatives at RDI. In 1999, Beth assisted RDI with the preparation of a successful application for a three-year project submitted to the Social Sciences and Humanities Council to examine the determinants of health of rural populations. With Dr. Fran Racher (School of Health Studies, BU) and other researchers, she prepared an application to the Canadian Institutes of Health Research for Community Collaboration to Improve Health Care Access of Northern Residents. This three-year project is nearing completion. This year, Beth provided editorial assistance to the Manitoba from the Air: A Geographical Interpretation e-book project.
Beth’s current focus is on issues related to leafy spurge awareness and management in the Province of Manitoba. She serves as coordinator of the Leafy Spurge Stakeholders Group, having managed a number of projects over the last 9 years on its behalf. She managed the multi-year project, Managing Invasive Species: Leafy Spurge Control which concluded in September of this year and currently oversees On the Ground: Leafy Spurge Surveillance and Management and Towards Establishing an Invasive Plant Council for the Province of Manitoba, a project funded under the federal Invasive Alien Species Partnership Program.
