Originally from rural Manitoba, Ryan has been engaged with the Rural Development Institute since 2002. Ryan’s research interests include regional governance, multi-community collaboration, cooperatives, rural philanthropy, rural revitalization, and immigration and migration.

Ryan serves as a board member with the Canadian Community Economic Development Network and the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation. Ryan is currently completing a PhD in Geography at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland focusing on rural governance.
