Frequently Asked Questions
Application Process
Q. How and when should I apply?
A. Please see our application information page.
Q. How are room assignments done?
A. Room assignments are performed manually and are based on information provided by students on the application form, i.e. roommate requests, area of study, hobbies, study habits and whether or not student smokes.
Requests based on medical or compassionate reasons must be documented, and will be given careful consideration by the Director of the Residence Hall Programs Office. Brandon University residence may not always be suitable for students requiring special care. The Residence does have limited accommodation for mobility-challenged residents.
Q. Will I get a single room?
A. First year residents are rarely given single rooms. Single rooms are first assigned to returning residence students, secondly to mature students (22 years+) and finally to first year students if any are available at time of processing.
Waiting lists are established for those applicants who have requested a single room and have been assigned to a double room. As single rooms become available throughout the year, those on the wait list are contacted to inquire if they wish to be moved to a single accommodation at the additional charge.
Q. What do the rooms look like and what is provided in each room?
A. Please click on the residence hall of your choice for more information: McMaster Hall, Flora Cowan Hall or Darrach Hall
