Important Check-out Information

Please read carefully

There are a few things about checking out of residence that we’d like to bring to your attention:

  • If you will be here longer than 24 hours after your last exam, or if for ANY reason you need to be here past January 1, 2013, (end of contract date for 1st term only contracts), please see the staff in the Residence Office.
  • EAP students, if you will need to be here longer than December 7th (end of EAP contract date for 1st term), or you wish to renew your contract for second term, please see the staff in the Residence Office.
  • You will need to clean your room thoroughly. Linen and blankets should be removed from the bed, folded, and placed on the desk.A charge will be made against your account if your room is not cleaned properly. Additionally: If there is any damage to the rooms or contents, those responsible for the room will be assessed a replacement or repair charge. A charge will be made against your account if your room is not cleaned properly. The minimum charge is $50.00.
  • The Residence Office cannot be responsible for personal property left in rooms. Any items left in rooms after check-out will be disposed of.
  • In order to get your $40.00 key deposit back you must return your mail key, your room key, and your residence identification card to the Residence Office on the main floor of McMaster Hall, during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday). Failure to do so within 5 business days of your departure, will mean forfeiture of your key deposit. In addition, the student ‘s account will be charged for the cost incurred to change the door lock. In all cases this charge is non-refundable.
  • When leaving residence, all students are requested to complete a Residence Office Check-out form. If a student requests mail forwarding to a given address, the key deposit money can be transferred and used to pay for the $40.00 forwarding fee, which will enable the Residence Office to forward a student’s mail for one calendar year.
  • If you will be leaving outside of regular business hours you can make your check-out arrangements beforehand: see the staff in the Residence Office.
