Residence Assistants

The Role of the Residence Assistant:

The Residence Assistant (RA) is primarily responsible for security, discipline and assisting residence students. The RA is a mature student who has lived in residence a minimum of 2 years and who is intensely involved in residence hall life. The Residence Assistants develop and encourage residence activities, events, and programs.

In addition, the Residence Assistant maintains discipline in the Residence Complex so that the needs and rights of all students are respected. RAs can refer residents to the appropriate counselling and academic resources. They initiate activities in which students can socialize, learn and develop. The Residence Assistant reports to the Director of Residence Hall Programs.

Meet the RA’s for Fall/Winter 2011-2012:

McMaster Hall

Justin- 1/2 Floors		Kirsten- 3/4 Floors
Justin Thompson (JT) is the Floor 1/2 R.A in McMaster Hall for 2011-12. He is in his first year of his Bachelor of Education after degree. This is his fifth year in residence and has previously served as floor rep and vice-president on McMaster Hall Council as well as an R.A of Darrach Hall. Justin enjoys hockey and football; he is a New Jersey Devils fan and proud supporter of the Winnipeg Blue and Gold!! Justin is very excited to be back in McMaster and hopes to make this year a good one.		Kirsten Landen is the RA for Floors 3/4 McMaster Hall for the ’11/12 year. This is Kirsten’s third year as an R.A and her first year of her Bachelor of Education after degree. Kirsten has spent five years in residence and has previously served as the McMaster Hall council president. Kirsten enjoys spending time outdoors; especially hunting or trapping with her dad, grandpa and uncle. She also enjoys football and is a Blue Bombers fan! Kirsten is looking forward to making this year a memorable one for both returning and new students alike
Lyndon - 5/6 Floors		Leandra- 7/8 Floors
Lyndon Duff is the RA for floors 5/6 for the 2011/2012 school year. He is excited to meet the new students and help them adjust to residence life. This is his third year attending Brandon University. Lyndon aims to attain a Bachelor’s of Science majoring in Biology with a minor in Physics. He has a fascination for insects and their role in the natural world. Lyndon can often be found playing basketball, video games, or strolling around residence during his time away from school.		Leandra is the RA for Floors 7/8 McMaster Hall of the 2011/12 school year. She is primarily a flute player, graduating from Music Education this year. Leandra enjoys playing Ultimate Frisbee, baking cookies, all-you-can-eat sushi and going for bike rides. She looks forward to all the fun times and people she’s going to see this year!

Melanie Sutherland…		Patrick Hayes, from Whitehorse Yukon, is the RA for floors 7/8 in McMaster Hall for 2010/2011 and is looking forward to helping make residence life a little bit better for everyone. This is his third year of post-secondary education following a brief hiatus from school to work in information technology. He is working towards a degree in Computer Science with a minor in psychology. When not studying, Patrick enjoys photography, reading and watching movies.
