Submission Information

Detailed instructions for submitting manuscripts to The Canadian Geographer can be found at the following: http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/journal.asp?ref=0008-3658

These instructions include the following statement specific to the Canadian Human Landscape Examples Series: to “explore issues in the Canadian human environment by offering interpretive perspectives on Canadian human landscapes. Canadian Human Landscape Examples should be limited to 3000 words, including all text, tables, and illustrations. The advice of the Canadian Human Landscapes editor should be sought before a reader prepares a submission.”

The former Urban Landscape Series was the product of the success of the Canadian Landform Examples.  And to quote the past editor, David Ley, “in an instructional environment in which textbooks rarely highlight Canadian material, there is an urgent pedagogic need to provide cogent and succinct illustrations of important concepts and processes from Canada for classroom use”. The transition to include human landscapes more broadly is simply an extension of Dr. Ley’s original conception.

Subject Matter: Research addressing both past and present landscapes are welcome.  A landscape vignette should be interpreted using photographs and/or maps to describe the processes at work in producing the landscape.  While both interpretation and description are important elements there must be an interpretive or process-orientation to the landscape presented. We also want to encourage interested contributors that the landscapes need not be metropolitan centres, although these submissions are also welcome.

Format: The manuscript length guideline is 3,000 words, inclusive of all text, graphics and references. Authors are encouraged to plan the mix of text and illustrations to maximize its instructional impact.  The referee process followed is the same as for regular contributions to The Canadian Geographer.

This is a chance for many to share those valuable teaching and research products with a larger audience. We look forward to your submissions!
