Connect with BU125
Brandon University’s 125th anniversary is a year-long celebration of who we are, where we live, and what we do.
We cherish our history. Brandon College was founded in 1899, building on years of earlier education efforts both here in Brandon and in Rapid City. Of course, we are mindful that education in this area long predates colonization, and we are continuing to both make amends for the role that educational institutions have played in harming relations with Indigenous peoples, and to learn from Indigenous wisdom and worldviews that have been neglected in Western approaches to education
In the contest of Indigenous histories, 125 year is not that long. Nevertheless, for Brandon College and Brandon University, it is an important milestone, and an exciting year ahead is planned
Our theme this year is “CONNECT”. Our 125th anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate this significant milestone. We will reflect on our past and on our accomplishments. We will take stock of the present, including both opportunities and challenges. And we will plan for the future. What ambitions will we tackle? What legacy will we leave?
Connect with ourselves
What does it mean to connect? We have 125 years of connection! Brandon University pairs a global perspective with a personal touch — that’s rooted in Westman.
Connect with meaning
The full BU125 Medallion is filled with meaning that connects it to our past, our future, our communities, and our campus.
Connect with activity
Our BU125 celebrations will be woven throughout the academic year. We can look for and honour connections that we already have and we can build new connections that will leave a legacy for the next 125 years.
Connect with permanence
Our BU125 legacy project is a ‘Heart of the Campus’ outdoor classroom, creating a new, green, outdoor learning area in the central part of campus.
