As an integral component to the development of the\u00a0Plan for the Campus, the physical areas within buildings\u00a0needed be considered to achieve an understanding of the\u00a0potential future build out plan. Academic, administrative,\u00a0and social spaces, among others, were inventoried, and,\u00a0together with predictions on student full-time equivalent\u00a0(FTE) counts, were translated into high-level space\u00a0projections to meet the University\u2019s needs. This space\u00a0planning assessment of the Campus\u2019 interior spaces was\u00a0addressed through three distinct yet related components,\u00a0as outlined below.<\/p>\n
The development of a database of existing campus\u00a0spaces including academic learning spaces (classrooms\u00a0and teaching labs), research laboratories, academic and\u00a0administrative work spaces, library and student study\u00a0spaces, and student & central services spaces, and their\u00a0associated net areas, measured as the usable area,\u00a0assignable to a specific function.<\/p>\n
Derived through use of post-secondary education\u00a0guidelines, and considering the University\u2019s estimated\u00a0student enrolment, the calculation of annual space\u00a0requirements for the next 10 years across a variety of\u00a0space categories.<\/p>\n
A review of current utilization of teaching spaces\u00a0(classrooms and instructional labs) across the Campus,\u00a0considering room bookings over availability and in-class\u00a0seat occupancy over room capacity.<\/p>\n
