The\u00a0Design Moves are key structural components that\u00a0define the Concept Plan. This will\u00a0create a more pedestrian-friendly environment and present an\u00a0improved face to the community that better represents Brandon\u00a0University. For instance: enhancing\u00a0the tree canopy and plantings along pedestrian walkways and\u00a0streets; improving sidewalks and walkways; allowing on-street\u00a0parking on both sides of the street; enhanced pedestrian-scale\u00a0lighting along pathways; and, improving pedestrian markings at\u00a0intersections and other potential crossing points. This can include emphasizing the architecture and\u00a0design of new buildings at gateways, including public art in open\u00a0spaces, and well-marked pedestrian crossings. A key aspect of this approach is to bring\u00a0back some of the elements of the Campus\u2019 original design that\u00a0have been eroded by surface parking lots. This includes creating\u00a0a central green spine. This may involve a number of\u00a0initiatives, such as: extending linkages to new and existing\u00a0destinations internally, including the south campus area, and\u00a0externally, including the BU Downtown Campus and the Fleming\u00a0School site; emphasizing the prominence of the Campus\u2019 central\u00a0spine as a movement corridor; improving landscape design in\u00a0terms of planting, paving, and lighting. For example, this\u00a0includes having amenities in all areas of the Campus that are\u00a0highly accessible in order to draw the community in from all\u00a0sides.
