It also helps to create visual interest, and\u00a0to visually link spaces. Tall buildings provide opportunities to experience\u00a0views through the Campus, to the neighbourhood, and to\u00a0the city, and should be located accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>Creating view corridors through and to the Campus\u00a0provides opportunities to showcase unique architecture.\u00a0Defined views to significant buildings enables the\u00a0recognition and appreciation of prominent landmarks and\u00a0architecture, new and old. Having landmark buildings as a\u00a0terminus to views further enables wayfinding as it allows\u00a0pedestrians to locate themselves throughout the Campus.<\/p>\n<p>Locating significant buildings or distinct architectural\u00a0form at entry points or along the Campus\u2019 periphery is\u00a0a way in which to draw people into the campus as they\u00a0approach the campus from a distance, or as they are at\u00a0the Campus\u2019 edges.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The structure and placement of buildings and\u00a0landscape should be designed to enhance existing\u00a0views or establish new views throughout the Campus.<\/li>\n<li>There should be clear and unobstructed views at all\u00a0points of access into the Campus.<\/li>\n<li>Views into the Campus at all gateway entrances\u00a0should be terminated with or have a prominent\u00a0landmark feature as a draw into the Campus, such as\u00a0a building tower, a glassed atrium frontage, distinct\u00a0tree planting, and a significant art piece.<\/li>\n<li>\n<div id=\"attachment_404\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-404\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17-300x175.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17-180x105.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17-250x146.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/built17.jpg 506w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Precedent: Pedestrian spines with long views<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Larger and more prominent features should be used to\u00a0terminate long views into the Campus so that they can\u00a0be seen from afar.<\/li>\n<li>There should be clear and unobstructed views along the\u00a0north-south and east-west spines &#8211; Louise Avenue, 20th\u00a0Street, the north-south spine, and the central east-west\u00a0pedestrian plaza.<\/li>\n<li>The design of new buildings, or the retrofitting of\u00a0existing buildings, should include public spaces in\u00a0which to experience and appreciate views to adjacent\u00a0open spaces within the Campus.<\/li>\n<li>There design of new tall buildings, or the retrofitting\u00a0of existing tall buildings, should include public spaces\u00a0in which to experience and appreciate views through\u00a0the Campus and beyond as an opportunity to visually\u00a0connect to the community and city context.<\/li>\n<li>Landmark buildings, especially at the Campus\u2019\u00a0periphery, should be designed to be welcoming,\u00a0transparent, animated, and representative of the\u00a0character and quality of place.<\/li>\n<li>Design landmark buildings intended to terminate\u00a0or define view corridors, or to define gateways, as\u00a0opportunities to showcase pedagogical uses and\u00a0activity and draw people into the Campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defined views and view corridors, and the integration\u00a0of landmark building structures, landscaping, and art\u00a0assists in campus wayfinding and building identity for\u00a0the University.
