Building\u00a0transparency in a campus context is important because\u00a0it helps to create a safe environment, allowing visibility\u00a0indoors and outdoors. It is particularly important to have\u00a0transparency at grade for this reason. Transparency\u00a0allows for a seamless transition between interior and\u00a0exterior spaces, especially public realm space.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Buildings should be transparent and animated at\u00a0grade to encourage a level of safety with \u201ceyeson-\u00a0the-campus\u201d. This is especially important for\u00a0buildings fronting streets, open spaces, and primary\u00a0pedestrian circulation corridors.<\/li>\n<li>The design of buildings should locate interior\u00a0study spaces and social gathering spaces along the\u00a0periphery to visually and physically connect with the\u00a0exterior open spaces, pathways, and streets.<\/li>\n<li>Transparency should also be considered in the design\u00a0of buildings so that they feel light in form and are a\u00a0primary means of illuminating open spaces at night.<\/li>\n<li>Direct passageways through buildings and between\u00a0buildings in the form of breezeways, should be\u00a0clearly visible, open, and highly transparent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Transparency describes the ability to see into and out\u00a0of buildings through glass windows and doors.
