It can be used to elevate and enhance the\u00a0quality and character of space by providing attractive\u00a0architectural or artistic design form during the daytime,\u00a0and a variety of ambiance levels during the night time.\u00a0This allows the campus to have various types of unique\u00a0open spaces.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Campus streets and open spaces should be well-lit\u00a0to create a sense of safety and security, especially in\u00a0winter, when daylight hours are short.<\/li>\n<li>Lighting design should provide adequate illumination\u00a0while minimizing light pollution. Dark sky lighting\u00a0standards should be used to be in keeping with\u00a0achieving a sustainable design approach.<\/li>\n<li>Energy-efficient lights should be installed throughout\u00a0the Campus to minimize energy usage.<\/li>\n<li>The lighting design of open spaces should be carefully\u00a0chosen to complement the use and character of\u00a0the space and to enhance the unique elements and\u00a0landscapes within.<\/li>\n<li>Pedestrian scale lighting should be used within the\u00a0open spaces and streets. Vehicular scaled lighting\u00a0should be used primarily at street intersections.<\/li>\n<li>The choice and style of light fixtures should contribute\u00a0to building campus identity and creating a quality\u00a0environment. The fixtures should complement the\u00a0architecture and landscape and read as part of an\u00a0overall package of furnishings for the Campus.<\/li>\n<li>Lighting can be in the form of art, and can be\u00a0integrated into art forms as well.<\/li>\n<li>The design for the open spaces should include\u00a0electrical conduits for temporary or decorative lighting\u00a0installations during festivals and events.<\/li>\n<li>Decorative lighting should not be used on trees.
