Art plays an important role in building the\u00a0University\u2019s identity. It provides opportunities to create\u00a0a unique environment and enhance the quality and\u00a0experience of the public realm. It is a means in which to\u00a0convey the history and culture of Indigenous peoples.\u00a0Public art also serves as an orienting and wayfinding\u00a0mechanism, and can be used as a gateway feature located\u00a0at key entrances into the Campus, along pedestrian\u00a0corridors, at the terminus of streets, and within all open\u00a0spaces. Art can be used to frame or terminate views as a\u00a0focal point, or add interest to a streetscape or open space.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Art may be represented as permanent or temporary\u00a0installations, water features, recreational features,\u00a0furniture, landscaping, architectural design and\u00a0signage.<\/li>\n<li>Art can function as an interpretive and educational\u00a0tool and should be used as a means of telling the story\u00a0of Indigenous peoples.<\/li>\n<li>The scale of art installations should correspond to the\u00a0visual prominence of the site.<\/li>\n<li>At the planning of each phase of development, key\u00a0locations for art within the public realm should be\u00a0identified so that it can be integrated into the design.<\/li>\n<li>Temporary installations are encouraged as\u00a0opportunities to animate the winter landscape, to\u00a0create a dynamic campus environment year round,\u00a0and to engage the community.<\/li>\n<li>All art within the Open Space Framework should be\u00a0publicly accessible.<\/li>\n<li>Art should be used as a means of visibly representing\u00a0and building Indigenous peoples\u2019 culture and identity\u00a0on campus, and should be located in key locations and\u00a0within significant places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public art is an art installation that resides within the\u00a0public realm.
