These occur at the north and south ends of the\u00a0Campus, at 19th Street and 20th Street South. The Lorne\u00a0Avenue gateway is also primarily pedestrian but does\u00a0provide drop-off and pick-up access to Clark Hall.<\/p>\n<h2>19th Street and Princess Avenue Gateway<\/h2>\n<p>The 19th Street Gateway is significant as it is the\u00a0northern entrance to the Campus\u2019 central pedestrian spine\u00a0and the beginning of a walk through the heritage campus.\u00a0This gateway should tell the history of the Campus\u2019\u00a0original structure.<\/p>\n<h2>20th Street and Victoria Avenue Gateway<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_558\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7-300x171.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"171\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-558\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7-180x103.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7-250x143.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/gate7.jpg 375w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Precedent: Pedestrian Gateway \u2014 defined by built form<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The 20th Street Gateway is the south pedestrian\u00a0point of access into the campus from the south\u00a0neighbourhoods. It is an opportunity to demarcate and\u00a0enhance the link between the University and Earl Oxford\u00a0Elementary School. New buildings and an enhanced\u00a0recreational field should be key components of gateway\u00a0treatments at the point of access.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The 19th Street Pedestrian Gateway should be\u00a0demarcated with a heritage element that tells the\u00a0story of the Campus\u2019 original structure. This can take\u00a0the form of signage, free standing art or fixed art. A\u00a0fixed art feature can continue along the length of the\u00a0north-south spine and end at the 20th Street South\u00a0gateway.<\/li>\n<li>Each gateway should have safe signalized pedestrian\u00a0crossings to allow for safe pedestrian passage to and\u00a0from the University.<\/li>\n<li>Enhanced materials such as a raised intersection\u00a0treatment should be considered for the 19th Street\u00a0gateway crossing.<\/li>\n<li>The new building at the 20th Street South Gateway\u00a0should provide a prominent architectural feature\u00a0as part of the building design. The design of the\u00a0entrance should include an area to sit, or to stop and\u00a0read signage to navigate the campus.<\/li>\n<li>The new building should provide an animated use\u00a0at grade to contribute to the gateway treatment\u00a0at the entrance point such as commercial uses, a\u00a0coffee house, or an internal ice-skating rink that\u00a0would compliment the adjacent health and wellness\u00a0amenities and uses, and create a year-round\u00a0southerly draw.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Pedestrian Gateways are pedestrian-only points of\u00a0access.
