Students can rely\u00a0less on having to use a vehicle to go distances to shop,\u00a0buy groceries, or go to an eating establishment as these\u00a0services are now within walking and cycling distances to\u00a0the neighbourhoods and the downtown.<\/p>\n<p>The Movement Framework designs for safe cycling\u00a0circulation along the pedestrian circulation routes, as well\u00a0as the campus streets. Shared bike markings and signage\u00a0provide clarity in movement between the integrated\u00a0modes of transportation. In addition, new cycling\u00a0amenities such as heated shelters and bike repair stations\u00a0are recommended on campus.<\/p>\n<h3>Policies:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Cycling should be accommodated on all campus\u00a0streets and pedestrian pathways.<\/li>\n<li>Bicycle amenities such as bike parking posts,\u00a0sheltered bike parking stations, and even a bike\u00a0repair shop or free standing bike repair stations can\u00a0encourage increased cycling.<\/li>\n<li>Heated or enclosed bike parking facilities should be\u00a0considered in the north, central, and south campus\u00a0areas to encourage use throughout the winter season.\u00a0These facilities can be incorporated into the design of\u00a0new buildings.<\/li>\n<li>Free standing bike posts should be located\u00a0throughout the campus in close proximity to building\u00a0entrances, in interior parking lots, and in the major\u00a0open spaces.\n<div id=\"attachment_610\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\" style=\"width: 300px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2-300x182.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-610\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2-180x109.jpg 180w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2-250x151.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/files\/bike2.jpg 520w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Precedent: Sheltered bicycle storage facilities<\/p><\/div><\/li>\n<li>The location of the bike posts should not obstruct\u00a0pedestrian passage along the circulation routes, and\u00a0should be integrated into the design of the public\u00a0realm.<\/li>\n<li>With the exception of sheltered bike parking facilities,\u00a0bike parking should not be designed in large groupings\u00a0but should be spread in smaller groupings of four or\u00a0five bike posts, throughout the campus<\/li>\n<li>Provide painted sharrow markings on Louise Avenue\u00a0and 20th Street to indicate that the street is to be\u00a0shared equally by vehicles and cyclists.<\/li>\n<li>Provide bike signage to demarcate cycling routes and\u00a0connections to other destinations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As Brandon University moves towards a multi-modal\u00a0movement strategy, cycling will become an increasingly\u00a0dominant mode of transportation, especially now that\u00a0the Fleming School Site and the BU Downtown Campus\u00a0has been established.
