{"id":672,"date":"2017-08-11T23:02:11","date_gmt":"2017-08-11T23:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/?page_id=672"},"modified":"2017-08-11T23:02:11","modified_gmt":"2017-08-11T23:02:11","slug":"mid-to-long-term-initiatives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/campusplan\/implementation\/development-phasing\/mid-to-long-term-initiatives\/","title":{"rendered":"Mid to Long-Term initiatives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The University should seek to manage growth and\u00a0development of the campus in a compact way, focusing\u00a0on the redevelopment of or additions to existing buildings\u00a0as opportunities for growth rather than building new\u00a0stand alone buildings in remote areas of the Campus.\u00a0This means that any development or re-development\u00a0within a ten to twenty year time frame would be focused\u00a0within the campus core area, between 18th Street, Louise\u00a0Avenue, 21st Street, and Princess Avenue. They also provide opportunities\u00a0to frame and enhance existing open spaces and define\u00a0new ones as guided by the Open Space Framework.<\/p>\n<h3>Recommendations:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop the George T. Richardson building expansion\u00a0as an opportunity to create a new gateway as a\u00a0terminus to Lorne Avenue, to increase academic\u00a0space and provide other campus uses such as new\u00a0student amenities and social gathering spaces.<\/li>\n<li>Renovate the Music Hall Courtyard Space in\u00a0conjunction with the George T. Richardson building\u00a0expansion initiative. Consider providing access from\u00a0the music building to the open space as part of a\u00a0comprehensive development initiative of this node.<\/li>\n<li>Redevelop Darrach Hall &amp; Flora Cowan Hall buildings\u00a0as opportunities to create a new frontage for Louise\u00a0Avenue and 20th Street, to replace and upgrade\u00a0student housing, and provide other campus uses and\u00a0services.<\/li>\n<li>Develop the George T. Richardson East-West Plaza in\u00a0conjunction with the redevelopment of the Darrach\u00a0Hall &amp; Flora Cowan Hall buildings.<\/li>\n<li>Renovate the John R. Brodie Science Centre with\u00a0upgraded facilities and enhance the courtyard\u00a0adjacent to the building.<\/li>\n<li>Enhance the plaza open space fronting the Centennial\u00a0Auditorium.
