The MMF seeks to fill one full-time Communications Assistant position within our Communications Department located at 150 Henry Ave in Winnipeg, MB. The Communications Assistant will provide assistance with drafting and researching briefing notes, radio scripts, speaking points, press releases, interview questions, and advertising copy. The incumbent will also provide primary administrative support to the Director of Communications by typing reports, answering general inquiries, and scheduling appointments and travel arrangements, amongst other administrative duties.

Job Duties/Competencies:

• Develop partnerships with targeted media (provincial newspapers, citizen sector publications, regional press, radio and television);

• Develop a network of contacts with internal and external clients and organizations;

• Create, refine and implement marketing and communication strategies;

• Prepare reports, memorandums, briefings, radio scripts, press releases and speaking points and letters;

• Develop advertising and promotional materials including website content and social media communiqués;

• Establish and maintain files and statistical information on communication related information;

• Plan and coordinate media events;

• Attend meetings, conferences and community gatherings as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Graduation from a recognized program in communications, advertising, public relations or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience;

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a related field;

• Ideal to have a minimum 2 years’ experience working with Adobe Creative Suite;

• Extensive experience working with Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, SharePoint;

• Experience with graphic design, photography, and videography is an asset;

• Proficiency in French is an asset;

• Experience working for a not-for-profit organization and Indigenous community is an asset;

• Knowledge of Métis culture, MMF programs and services is a definite asset; and,

• Ability to travel, valid Manitoba Driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
