On behalf of our client, Gardewine Group Limited Partnership, we are seeking an Assistant Controller to join their team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Gardewine provides a cross-Canada fleet of transportation solutions to deliver anything from small parcels and perishable products to bulk goods and equipment. Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for assisting with and performing various full cycle accounting functions, reporting, and financial analysis. We are seeking a dynamic individual who has strengths in attention to detail, organization, multitasking, and working with financial information to ensure successful company performance. This financial role will appeal to a confident professional with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, analytical mind-set, leadership skills and drive to achieve results in a complicated and diverse business model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparation of monthly internal and external financial reporting facets
  • Reconcile accounts monthly, quarterly and yearly
  • Complete month end closing procedures on assigned financial statement items
  • Support the development and monitoring of financial reports and key performance indicators for operational and corporate goals
  • Source, investigate and recommend improvements on process, accuracy, and efficiency
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly government remittances
  • Communicates regularly with Controller on issues and concerns
  • Prepare budget and P&L statements
  • Produces ad-hoc financial reports or analysis of key business areas as needed
  • Supports month end, quarter end and year end reporting
  • Ensure financial reporting and procedural compliance with all applicable federal and provincial regulations
  • Assist in development, maintenance of effective financial operations/systems/procedures
  • Assist in preparation, development, and monitoring of key performance indicators for operational and corporate overview
  • Work closely with all members of accounting team on process, accuracy, and efficiency improvements of accounting processes

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Completion of accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial management experience
  • Able to work independently and work effectively in a team environment
  • Well-developed communication and organizational skills
  • Strong analytical skills, detail oriented, and able to meet deadlines
  • Strong computer skills and administrative skills with extensive experience with Microsoft Office Software
