The School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track position in Social Studies Teacher Education at the Assistant Professor level, commencing July 1, 2020.

Candidates must possess, or be near completion of, a doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Social Studies Education (Elementary and/or Secondary methods) or a related field. School teaching experience and knowledge of the Nova Scotia curriculum would be assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and teaching B.Ed. courses in social studies methodology for elementary and secondary level preservice teachers, as well as graduate and undergraduate courses in related pedagogical areas such as: geography, indigenous education, cross cultural and global education, educational assessment, equity, and foundations.

In addition to teaching, candidates will be expected to develop an independent research program, and should have a record of scholarly activity. The School offers four M.Ed. specializations and is part of the Interuniversity Ph.D. Program in Educational Studies. Candidates will be expected to contribute to these programs through teaching and project or thesis supervision. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to service and collegial governance through participation on committees within the School and University, and through external engagement.

Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement outlining current and future research interests, one or more sample publications, and a teaching portfolio. This portfolio will necessarily include a statement that addresses teaching praxis, course evaluations, teaching accomplishments, curriculum or course development (sample course outlines), and evidence of other teaching related activities.
