Position #30211TT

The School of Education invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2020.

Acadia University offers Nova Scotia’s only Master of Education in Counselling, a program that is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counsellor Education Programs (CACEP).

The successful candidate will possess or be near completion of a doctorate in Counsellor Education, Counselling Psychology, or a closely-related field, have experience as a counselling practitioner, and must be registered/certified with a professional counselling body (e.g., Registered Counselling Therapist with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists, Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, Registered Psychologist with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology). Teaching experience in counselling education and/or counselling psychology, experience as a clinical supervisor for counsellors-in-training, and a developing research program in these disciplines will be considered assets.

The successful candidate will teach in the MEd Counselling program, which may entail travel to off-site cohorts across the province and region. In addition to teaching, candidates will be expected to develop an independent program of research and scholarly activity. The successful candidate will also actively engage in service activities within the School of Education and the University. The School of Education is committed to social justice and values both a diverse student and faculty complement. We therefore welcome and encourage applications from members of traditionally under-represented communities.

Applications must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a statement describing scholarly interests and potential plan for the development of a research program, one or more sample publications, and a teaching portfolio. This portfolio should include a statement on teaching philosophy and interests, evidence of curriculum or course development (sample course outlines), course evaluations, and evidence of other teaching related activities. Supporting documents should provide clear evidence of (a) relevant academic credentials; (b) experience as a counselling practitioner; (c) a record of successful relevant teaching experience at the university level; and (d) potential for contributions to the MEd Counselling program, the Acadia School of Education and Acadia University. Applicants should arrange for three signed letters of reference from individuals familiar with the candidate’s research and teaching to be sent directly to ann.vibert@acadiau.ca.
