Interested in a career in sports medicine, Athletic Therapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy? Fitness and Exercise Science?

Bobcat Athletics offers a Student Trainer Program that is volunteer based, not for credit program. It provides students with the opportunity to examine and experience the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries. Students gain experiential learning under the mentorship of a Certified Athletic Therapist.

Student Trainers will:

  • Assist with athlete injury prevention and rehabilitation in the Sports Medicine Clinic in the Healthy Living Centre.
  • Be assigned to a Bobcats team for a season and will cover practices and games at home and away.
  • Attend Seminars that cover injury prevention, acute injury management, assessment of sports injuries, rehabilitation principles, exercise prescription and current issues in sport science.
  • Acquire valuable experience to future career as a therapist, educator, coach and other professionals.

Student Trainer Program Admission Requirements:

  • Enrollment in Brandon University
  • Valid CPR (by September 2019)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (by September 2019)

Students may also wish to have the following (but not required):

  • Experience as a trainer in high school or college
  • Manitoba Athletic Therapists Association – Sports First Aider
  • Canadian Hockey Safety Program
  • Aquatics and other awards

Information Sessions: April 1st 2020 from 3:00pm to 3:30pm in Room 002 at the HLC.
