Description
The Brandon University Students’ Union (BUSU) is looking for a motivated and hardworking individual to fill the Executive Member position of President.
The BUSU President works 40 hours a week, which generally takes place Monday through Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm, with some exceptions for Union events and initiatives, and external board requirements.
This is a term position ending April 30, 2021, with a salary of $21,012.32.
Additional Benefits include; 12 paid personal days, coverage through the BUSU Health and Dental plan, and campus parking pass.
Presidential duties shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Chairing Council Meetings and Policy & Bylaw Sub-Committee;
- Acting as the main Union spokesperson on all student issues;
- Overseeing and developing all campaign and government relations of the union;
- Advocating the Union’s interests and providing input on Board of Governors, the Senate, SUDS Board, KDC Board, and any other committees of the University of which the President is a member or whom the President has an opportunity to address;
- Serving as a liaison between BUSU and senior administration of the University, developing and maintaining a positive working relationship, and when appropriate lobbying them on behalf of BUSU;
- Ensuring that any programs of Council and the Union are implemented in accordance with motions of Council, the Act, the Bylaws, and Policies;
- Furthering and maintaining good working relationships with Members of the Union, University, government bodies, the private sector, the not-for-profit sector, and the general public, and other student unions and/or student associations and/or student federations;
- Serving as a liaison between BUSU and other Student Associations, and external organizations including the Canadian Federation of Students;
- Presenting the Union with a viewpoint of persons and groups outside of the University;
- Assisting with the long term strategic direction for the union;
- Performing any other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Bylaws or Council.
Qualifications:
- Must be either a BU student currently enrolled in the upcoming academic year (2020-21) or a former student who was registered in the previous academic year (2019-20)
- The President is permitted to take a maximum of 6 credit hours each regular term (fall/winter) and 6 credit hours during either the Spring/Summer terms with a maximum of 12 credit hours total during the year.
