Duties:

Reporting to the Dean, the Chair provides leadership, direction and day to day management for the diploma and advanced level programs in Creative Communications, Graphic Design (including an Advanced Diploma), Digital Media Design (including Advanced Film and Gaming), Library and Information Technology and Deaf Studies.

The department also delivers programs in the context of contracts and partnerships. The Chair oversees the delivery of programming in the context of contracts, partnerships and applied research and the provision of courses to other College programs. The Chair is responsible for implementing strategic and operational plans for the department; leading change, providing leadership in the continuous improvement of program quality; managing fiscal resources; recruitment, development, evaluation and motivation of staff. The Chair ensures the students receive the advice and support necessary for success and develops and nurtures effective links with industry, the community and other College departments. The Chair is responsible for the overall success of the department as measured by students and industry satisfaction, student success and financial performance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in a Creative Arts discipline. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Experience leading large groups of employees
  • Experience administering programs at a post-secondary level
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Experience in the planning and management of multiple budgets and cost centers
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams as a self-aware, empathetic and adaptable leader
  • Experience reviewing, evaluating and developing academic programs
  • Significant experience leading individuals and teams through change
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to create and manage complex schedules
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs with multiple stakeholders
  • Significant recent experience with employee recruitment and human resource management

  • Commitment to lifelong learning

Assets:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Certificate in Adult Education
  • Completion of the Envision or Chair's academy program
  • Significant experience training others in a Creative Arts related discipline

Salary: $85,393 - $111,020 per annum (Effective June 20, 2020 salary will change to $86,244 - $112,136 per annum)
