Description

The Forks North Portage Partnership (TFNPP) is responsible for the continuing renewal and stewardship of two sites in Winnipeg’s downtown: North Portage and The Forks, land which is located on Treaty 1 territory, on the Original Lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, and Homeland of the Métis Nation. Established as a community development corporation by the three levels of government in the mid-80s, The Forks North Portage Partnership has directly or indirectly assisted in the development of residential, commercial and institutional, recreational, educational, historical and cultural facilities in the downtown.

The Forks mission is to be a 'Meeting Place,' a special and distinct, all-season gathering and recreational place at the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, through a mixed-use approach including recreational, historical and cultural, residential, and institutional and supportive commercial uses.

The North Portage neighbourhood is to be a centre of commerce, culture and living, integrated to form a diverse downtown community through a mixture of public uses including residential, commercial and institutional, recreational, educational and entertainment facilities.

TFNPP is governed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives appointed by the federal, provincial and municipal governments. TFNPP contributes over $126 million a year to the local economy and is financially self-sufficient – it does not rely on government funding to operate.
