Simon Fraser University Posted: January 21, 2021
Expires: February 23, 2021

Description

The Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, seeks applications for a Continuing Lecturer position in Counselling Psychology.

The appointment will be at the rank of Lecturer and will begin July 1, 2021.

Applicants  who can contribute to the teaching of any of the core counselling courses, and offer clinical supervision are encouraged to apply. The final selection of candidates will be based on the best overall demonstration of potential for contribution to the program.

Located in the greater Vancouver area, the Faculty offers classes on three urban campuses in Burnaby, Surrey, and downtown Vancouver (http://www.sfu.ca) and works with communities and school districts throughout British Columbia. The Faculty has an outstanding record in research grants and publications, and in the design and delivery of innovative community-based programs in teacher education and professional development. As a relatively small, generalist counsellor education program, we seek candidates who are able to contribute in these areas and have interests in education across disciplinary boundaries, in keeping with the non-departmental organization of the Faculty.

Candidates will contribute to the growth of the Counselling Psychology program at our SFU Surrey campus. Our program includes the SFU Surrey Counselling Centre that works in collaboration with the Surrey School Board. Along with clinical training, the Centre supports research in counselling practice and supervision.  Candidates must possess a doctoral degree in Counselling Psychology or related field and a minimum of three years of counselling practice experience in the field. Preference will be given to candidates who can contribute to three or more of the key teaching areas of the program including: supervised clinical practice and practicum, school counselling, counselling skills and strategies, assessment, ethics, group counselling, career counselling, multicultural counselling and family counselling. Candidates must demonstrate supervisory competencies (e.g. CCPA’s Canadian Certified Counsellor-supervisor designation or Graduate level training in counsellor supervision) and experience providing clinical supervision. Applicants will be expected to teach and develop counselling related courses and programming at both the undergraduate and graduate level, work with prepracticum and practicum students.

SFU is a university that serves students of diverse ethnic, cultural, linguistic and international origins and, therefore, interests and or experience in working in multicultural and international settings with students of diverse backgrounds is a desired attribute of applicants.

Applicants are asked to email three separate files (Word or PDF) to educ_appointments@sfu.ca:

  • A signed application letter that includes the description of the applicant’s scholarly interests, professional achievements to date, teaching experience, and potential contributions to the faculty, as well as names and contact information of three referees. (If unable to send an application letter with a scanned signature, a signed original should be mailed to: Chair, Appointments Committee, c/o Devi Pabla, Faculty of Education, Simon Fraser University, 8888 University Drive, Burnaby, BC, Canada, V5A 1S6).
  • A current curriculum vitae;
  • A scholarly publication

Deadline for applications is February 22, 2021

Only short-listed candidates will be contacted. Please do not ask referees to send letters of reference. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Simon Fraser University is committed to employment equity and welcomes applications from all qualified women and men, including visible minorities, persons with disabilities, and LGTBQ-identified persons.

The position is subject to availability of funding and final approval by the SFU Board of Governors. Under the authority of the University Act personal information that is required by the University for Academic Appointment Competitions will be collected.
