The Dean, Faculty of Education is part of the University’s senior leadership team and reports to the Provost and Vice-President (Academic). The successful candidate will be an innovative and inspiring leader with the skills to advance the goals of the Faculty and to build on its strengths. The Dean must be deeply committed to creating an exceptional student experience, to preparing future educators, to supporting its teaching, research and service responsibilities, and to furthering its responsibilities with respect to Indigenous achievement and engagement. The Dean will continue to support and enhance its strong reputation in the community and continue to collaborate, advocate and build positive partnerships across the University, as well as locally, provincially, nationally and internationally.

The Faculty of Education is recognized as a leader in education, a place for critical dialogue, inquiry, innovative teaching and research, and a community for educators to learn across their lifespan. The faculty offers a robust suite of programs including undergraduate, graduate and post-baccalaureate diplomas. It is the only institution in Manitoba to offer PhD programs and it supports a diverse community of learners with more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The ideal candidate shall hold a PhD in an education-related discipline or an EdD and be eligible for an appointment to the tenured senior ranks at the University. They will have a demonstrated distinguished record of successful research, academic, teaching, administrative and leadership experience. They should demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to Indigenous engagement, achievement, and to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada: Calls to Action. They should demonstrate success in equity, diversity and inclusion practices. Individuals should possess sound knowledge of the Canadian K-12 pedagogy and education systems. A familiarity with the opportunities and challenges of teaching and/or administration in the Manitoba education context would be valuable.
