Duties:

Reporting directly to the Chair of the Electrical Engineering Technology Department, the Educational Assistant will provide support to the Electrical, Electronics and Instrumentation labs. The duties of the Educational Assistant will include assisting core area instructors and providing equipment maintenance.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Organizing the labs
  • Regular maintenance of lab equipment (includes oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, etc)
  • Providing support to instructors in the preparation of labs
  • Purchasing electronic, electrical and mechanical components and equipment
  • Assisting instructors in the delivery of labs and classes and invigilating exams

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Significant industry experience related to post-secondary education
  • Experience troubleshooting 3-phase motors
  • Significant industry experience related to wiring and cabling
  • Experience with workshop and hand tools
  • Effective analytical skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as within a team environment
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Effective conflict resolution skills
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook and other computer applications related to the industry

Assets:

  • Experience calibrating electronic measurement devices and equipment
  • Experience in repairing, maintaining and adjusting electrical system components
  • Demonstrated experience soldering electronic devices
  • Experience in curriculum and/or program development
  • Hold a limited M license or Electrical Red Seal Designation
  • Experience developing safe work procedures

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba drivers license
