Emergency Manager

To shape the organization’s internal and external focus related to Emergency Management and to work in concert with City departments and external stakeholders on related matters.

The position will directly develop the Emergency Management Program in order to ensure that the organization, residents and businesses are in a state of readiness to respond to large scale emergency situations. Internally the position will support, guide and mentor City departments as they develop and implement relevant emergency response plans, mitigation activities and recovery processes. Externally the position will support emergency preparedness programs with community partners to develop awareness and personal emergency management capabilities that will lead to a safer and stronger community.

Mandatory Qualifications, Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor degree with emergency management focus e.g. Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies
  • Grade 12, G.E.D., or Mature High School Diploma
  • Demonstrated continuous learning through specialized course work in emergency management
  • Two (2) years’ experience in emergency management activities
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a progressive leadership position

Preferred Qualifications & Experience:

  • Postgraduate degree with emergency management focus
  • Business Continuity designation such as ABCP, CBCP, MBCP, BCI or MBCI
  • IAEM Canada AEM or CEM designation
  • Incident Command System – ICS 200, 300, 400

This full-time permanent position is not included in a Collective Agreement.

Rate of Pay: $78,229 - $89,468 (2020 Annual Rates)

The City of Brandon reserves the right to underfill this position.
