Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba is currently accepting applications from reliable individuals with a completed social science degree who have the skills to effectively manage a child welfare caseload by assessing risk-level, and ensuring the safety and well-being of children and families in a professional capacity. Applicants must be committed to becoming registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers.

As a Family Service Worker, you would be responsible for providing a wide range of services, including the provision of family counselling and child protection services and, where appropriate, services to children in the Agency's care. Regular office hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm with some flex-time expected.

Successful applicants who do not hold a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.) or Masters of Social Work (M.S.W.) will be expected to work towards becoming registered through the Manitoba College of Social Workers (M.C.S.W.) and become registered within four years of employment with the Agency. Qualifications:

  • Completed social science degree (i.e. Bachelor of Human Ecology, Bachelor of Arts, or Bachelor of Science with Psychology or Sociology);
  • Dedicated to becoming registered with the Manitoba College of Social Workers (i.e. BSW distance program enrollment or Substantial Equivelency registration route requirements);
  • Post social science degree related experience in the field is considered a definite asset;
  • Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act;
  • Effective assessment, interviewing, relationship building, problem solving and organizational skills;
  • Knowledge of child development, separation and attachment issues, parenting methods and casework practices;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Valid Manitoba Driver's License;
  • Successful completion of a Child Abuse Registry check, Criminal Record check, Prior Contact check and a Driver's Abstract check.
