Learn to Skate Instructor

***More than 1 (one) position to be filled***

Program consists of 5-8 lesson sessions, year round.  Lessons typically take place on Saturday mornings. Training will take place on a flexible/casual basis in advance of commencing employment.

The Learn to Skate Instructor is focused on helping individuals develop fundamental skating skills in a fun and safe environment at Brandon’s Community Sportsplex. This position involves preparing individual program plans, instructing skating programs and evaluating the progress of program participants while promoting interest and encouraging participation in program activity. Instructors work to ensure that participants have a positive experience and are performing the skills in a safe manner as set out in the established programs.

MANDATORY QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Emergency First Aid and CPR C Certification (at minimum) within 60 days of appointment;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Skate instructor coaching certification;
  • Previous skating instruction or coaching experience;
  • Previous experience working with children;
  • Previous experience working in a multi-ethnic setting.

NOTE: Incumbents must successfully complete a Child Abuse Registry Check and Criminal Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector Verification.

Rate of Pay: $14.91 - $21.28 per hour - 2022 rates.

Position Conditions: This is a temporary position, and will be offered in accordance with conditions identified in the Collective Agreement between the City of Brandon and CUPE Local 69.
