Job Title: Professor and Research Chair on Education and Ontario Francophone Communities, open rank and tenure track position

The Faculty of Education plays a leading role in French-language minority research across Canada. This tenure track position focuses on research and knowledge mobilization pertaining to educational policies affecting francophone linguistic minorities in Ontario. This research program will examine French-language minority education in Ontario and may cover issues related to diversity and inclusion and the linguistic vitality of Ontario francophone communities. This work can focus on various educational levels, from early childhood to higher education.

Research Chair on Education and Ontario Francophone Communities
The applicant selected for the professorship will be considered for the Research Chair on French-language minority education in Ontario, which is part of the University of Ottawa’s Chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone (CRMF) program. This program is meant to recognize research excellence and drives research on the francophonie, provincially, nationally and internationally. The chairs funded by this program are allocated based on the area of specialization of researchers and are also consistent with the University’s Strategic Areas of Research.

The Chair, awarded for a five-year term that can be renewed once, comes with an annual research fund of $25,000 for the length of the term. The chairholder must devote all resources obtained through this program to research and knowledge mobilization.

The person selected must have strong leadership skills and a demonstrated commitment to the promotion of French-language education and research, particularly in Ontario. Active participation in the activities of the Collège des chaires de recherche sur le monde francophone and regular collaboration will other CCRMF chairholders will be required.

Position tasks - the tasks expected of professors include, in varying proportions:

  • Teaching activities;
  • Scholarly activities exemplified by research, artistic or literary creation, or professional work;
  • Activities involving service to the University community;
  • Supervision of graduate students.

Term: Tenure-track position
Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $88,735 (as of May 1, 2022)
Start date: July 1, 2022

Qualifications:

  • Education: PhD or equivalent degree in an area related to the position

Work experience:

  • Excellent research dossier, as evidenced by publications and funding received as principal investigator
  • Well-established research partnerships in the field of minority education
  • Demonstrated knowledge of graduate-level teaching (teacher education experience an asset)
  • Excellent French skills
  • Passive knowledge of English (required for tenure); English-French bilingualism is considered an asset in this position.
