Teaching is inherently responsive. It requires both a continued deepening of understanding of an area of study and a self-reflexive approach to one\u2019s own teaching practice and identity. As a department, we aim to introduce this process in the undergraduate program. Instruction about how to deploy a universal design for instruction, adaptation, modifications, and the provision of assistive technology is also addressed. The second entity focuses on counselling in schools. Courses are oriented to support classroom teachers in developing and enhancing interpersonal skills for intervening with students with troubles. An overarching perspective of social justice education that examines intersecting oppressions, the development of anti-oppressive education and social justice pedagogies is a guiding principle of the department.
