Students will complete a Bachelor of Arts, Liberal Arts Distributed Major while simultaneously completing course work in the Bachelor of Education program. Early and Middle years teachers are responsible for teaching all subject areas (English, Math, Science and Social Studies) and can expect to become comfortable with these subject areas while also focusing on a two teachable subject areas. Graduates are eligible for a professional teacher\u2019s certificate in Manitoba.<\/p>\n<p>Created to provide support, facilitate student success, and to build community and identity among beginning teachers, the program integrates unique field experiences linked to classroom learning right from year 1. It develops stronger student relationships with instructors in the Faculty of Education and within the student cohort.\u00a0\u00a0 Each year of the program has an overarching theme as the focus for courses and fieldwork: The theme in year 1 is<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Who am I?<\/em>\u00a0 Followed in years 2-5 by<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Who are my Students?,<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span><em>What is Inquiry?<\/em>,<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>Who are We?<\/em><span>\u00a0<\/span>and<span>\u00a0<\/span><em>What does it mean to be a Reflective Teacher?\u00a0<\/em> The sequence of courses has recently been changed.<\/p>\n<p>For students that started in the Integrated Program Fall 2023 or before, you will follow this course sequence: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/education\/files\/Year-1-4-checklist-2023-before-5th-year-eligibility-1.pdf\">Year 1 &#8211; 4 checklist- 2023 &amp; before &amp; 5th year eligibility<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For students that started in the Integrated Program in Fall 2024 or after, you will follow this course sequence: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/education\/files\/Year-1-4-checklist-2024-after-5th-year-eligibility-1.pdf\">Year 1 &#8211; 4 checklist- 2024 &amp; after &amp; 5th year eligibility<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Program Length<\/h3>\n<p>A 5 -year program to complete your Bachelor of Arts (90 credit hours) plus your Bachelor of Education (60 credit hours) simultaneously for a total of 150 credit hours.<\/p>\n<h3>Program Options<\/h3>\n<p><span>You have two options when completing the Bachelor of Arts\/Bachelor of Education (5-Year Integrated) program:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><strong>Early Years<\/strong> \u2014 <\/span>The Early Years route is designed for teacher candidates who wish to specialize in teaching students from Kindergarten to grade four.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Middle Years<\/strong> \u2014 The Middle Years route is designed for teacher candidates who wish to specialize in teaching students from grade five to grade eight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"deadlines\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Deadlines (including supporting documents)<\/h2>\n<p>This program follows the general university admission deadlines: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/future-students\/apply\/application-deadlines\/\">https:\/\/www.brandonu.ca\/future-students\/apply\/application-deadlines\/<\/a><a name=\"grade\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Grade Requirements and Regulations<\/h2>\n<p>Students are required to achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.50 prior to completing the final year in Education. Education courses stale date at 7 years. No \u201cD\u201d grades are accepted toward teachable subject areas. Students must pass all field placements in order to graduate with a B.A.\/B.Ed. (A.D.) Integrated degree and to be considered for recommendation by the Dean of Education for professional certification by the Professional Certification Unit of Manitoba Education and Training.<a name=\"degree\"><\/a><br \/>\n<a name=\"program\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Program Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Admission to this program will be through the Admissions Office. Students entering the B.A.\/B.Ed. (A.D.) program must meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor of Arts (Liberal Arts Distributed Major 3-year) to be eligible for this program. Please note, a high school mathematics course in Applied or Pre-Calculus is a pre-requisite for 62:152 Contemporary Mathematics. If Applied or Pre-Calculus is not taken in high school, then students must complete 62.090 Basic Math prior to completing 62:152. A 2.50 GPA is required in the B.A. portion of the degree prior to completing the final year of the Education program.<\/p>\n<div id=\"accordion-1\" class=\"accordion no-js\">\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t1\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-initialstate=\"closed\">\n\t\t\t\tBachelor of Arts Portion Requirements\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c1\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\n<p>While completing the B.A. portion of the program, students should seek academic advising and keep in mind the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students must obtain a minimum 2.50 GPA and complete the 24 credit hours of Provincially required courses listed in the chart below.<\/li>\n<li>Students must complete 90 credit hours in the B.A. portion of the degree (including the 24 credit hours mentioned above in item a), and 30 credit hours in the B. Ed. portion of the degree, prior to entry into the final year in the B.Ed. degree.<\/li>\n<li>Students must have an 18 credit hour first teachable subject and a 12 credit hour second teachable subject which are listed below.<\/li>\n<li>No D grades are accepted towards teachable subject areas. Any course completed with a D in a teachable subject area must be repeated with a grade higher than D, or an additional course in the same subject with a grade higher than D must be completed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\n\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 role=\"button\" id=\"accordion-1-t2\" class=\"accordion-title js-accordion-controller\" aria-controls=\"accordion-1-c2\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\" data-initialstate=\"closed\">\n\t\t\t\tBrandon University Bachelor of Education Required Courses\t\t\t<\/h2>\n\t\t\n\t\t<div id=\"accordion-1-c2\" class=\"accordion-content\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\n<p>Brandon University requires that individuals seeking a Bachelor of Education degree as Early Years or Middle Years teachers must have successfully completed, as part of their university studies, 6 credit hours of English literature or French literature, 6 credit hours of history and\/or geography, 6 credit hours in mathematics and 6 credit hours in science. Integrated Program must complete 90 credit hours in Year 1 though Year 4 to fulfill the Liberal Arts Distributed Major degree requirements, including two teachable areas of 18 and 12 credit hours, and Brandon University&#8217;s required courses as noted above. They also must complete 60 credit hours in Education consisting of 30 credit hours in Year 1 through Year 4, AND 30 credit hours in Year 5, as outlined below. Year 1 through Year 4 may be completed part-time over a longer time period (keeping in mind Education course stale dates.
